Writing for Today's Christian Woman

At TCW, we’ve been inspired by Luke 10:25-28, which reads:
On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he
asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your
neighbor as yourself.'"

"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will
live."
Our mission is to "empower a community of women to love God and engage their world heart, soul, strength, and mind."

Our grid points:

Deep Faith (more theologically cased issues—fear, forgiveness, etc.)
Practical Faith (living it out—5 new ways to pray)
Self
Family
Friendship
Culture/Hot Issues/Women’s Issues
Outreach
Inspiring Women

I'm open to any number of creative approaches to material that will challenge our readers. Profiles? Yes. Personal narratives? Yes. Theological exploration in an accessible tone. Yes. Reporting on interesting trends in culture, medicine, politics that have direct bearing on Christian women? Yes. Think heart, soul, strength, and mind when sending in queries.

Speaking of queries…

Don’t send clips. I should be able to tell you can write in the course of your query.

Don’t tell me God told you to write this article. My question: But did he tell you it would be published? And if he did tell you to write the article and that it will be published, he can surely speak directly to me as well.

Don’t tell me why you are unqualified to write this article. Need I say more?

Do read TCW. I’m especially impressed if the query letter references past article in the publication or somehow demonstrates that the author is engaged with the magazine in some way.

Do give me a synopsis of your article that is more than cursory. I frequently get queries that are one or two paragraphs. As if I’m a mind-reader.

Do be creative. We’re always looking for fresh angles on evergreen faith topics (prayer, Bible study, etc) and creative entrées to topic we've never covered.

You can read our current writer's guidelines here. (Note: New ones will be posted in the coming year.)
